The Upcycle Project

Jo Smith, a local textile artist hosts a weekly session at the centre each Monday, 9.30-12.30. Jo has a workspace within the centre where private workshops and sessions can be held once restrictions are lifted and provides a cosy workspace for Jo when she’s crafting from here. Encouraging people to fetch along with pieces of fabric or clothing that might have seen better days – Jo helps with suggestions of how these pieces can have new life worked into them. Jo has exhibited her work across the country and after graduating from Epsom School of Art, her final collection became the finale of a Red or Dead show at London Fashion Week. Jo was chosen as an Embroiderers Guild Scholar in 2013 and this came with the chance for her to display her work at the Knitting and Stitching shows which gave a much wider audience the chance to see her work and lead to her first solo show at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre in Scunthorpe.
